TOKYO: The Japanese government decided Tuesday to provide 5 million dollars in emergency grant aid to Ukraine, which has been hit by flooding due to the collapse of a dam at a hydroelectric power plant.
The aid will be provided through international organizations to support Ukraine in the fields of food, water, hygiene and health.
Japanese Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio conveyed Tokyo’s intention to extend aid when he talked with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy over the phone on June 9.
“We will provide support based on the needs of Ukraine,” Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno told a press conference Tuesday.
