TOKYO: Muslims visiting or living in Tokyo celebrated Eid Al Adha with more than a thousand Japanese, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, Malaysians, French and Africans observing the ritual of morning prayers in Masjid Otsuka in Tokyo.

Imam Haroon Qureshi explained the meaning of this holy Eid and said funds were being collected from the faithful to bring to people in need.

At a nearby park, believers from Uzbekistan came to prepare samosas for the participants while Japanese women offered kakigori – crushed ice covered with syrup – to refresh the participants.

A young Japanese man explained that he converted barely a year ago and now lives in Malaysia.

It was in a warm atmosphere filled with compassion, friendship and family piety that the festival took place and where all Muslims wished each other Eid Mubarak by giving each other hugs at the end of the prayer.
