
Sendai: A truck hit and injured three children in the premises of an elementary school in the city of Kurihara, Miyagi Prefecture, northeastern Japan, on Thursday afternoon, local police said.
The three were taken to hospital for bruises and other injuries that were not life-threatening, according to police and fire officials.
Miyagi prefectural police arrested the driver, Akinori Onodera, 34, whose occupation is unknown, at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder.
According to the city’s education board, the three children are fourth graders at Wakayanagi Elementary School.
They were engaged in club activities when the incident occurred.
The elementary school is located in a residential area dotted with fields, about 2 kilometers west of JR Ishikoshi Station.
