Cooperation with countries in the Middle East will be intensified to diversify energy sources, Japan Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio said, addressing a press conference in Doha.

Japan will strengthen cooperation on ammonia and hydrogen energy with Saudi Arabia, UAE and Qatar to achieve this vision, Kishida added.

Kishida arrived in Qatar on Tuesday morning as part of the last leg of his Middle East tour.

Kishida and the accompanying delegation were welcomed upon arrival at Hamad International Airport by Qatar’s Minister of Commerce and Industry Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al-Thani, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Japan Hassan bin Mohammed bin Rafei Al Emadi, and Ambassador of Japan to Qatar Satoshi Maeda.

Kishida attended a summit meeting with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in which they will discuss bilateral ties and cooperation in the field of energy.

He will also ask for Qatar’s support in providing a stable supply of Liquified Natural Gas (LNG), as the gulf country is one of the world’s leading LNG exporters.

It is also expected that Japan Airlines will announce the start of direct flights between Doha and Japan during the visit, government sources in Tokyo told Arab News Japan.
