SHARJAH: Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, received OMURA Hideaki, Governor of Japan’s Aichi Prefecture, on Sunday, accompanied by an official delegation.

During the meeting, Sheikh Sultan welcomed the governor and his delegation, engaging in a cordial discussion focused on areas of mutual interest, particularly in the fields of arts, cultural exchange, and talent development.

The discussions emphasized strengthening bilateral relations between Sharjah and Aichi.

Governor Omura presented an overview of cultural initiatives taking place in Aichi Prefecture, highlighting the upcoming sixth edition of the Aichi Triennale, scheduled for September.

The major international art event will feature 66 artists from 22 countries.

Notably, Sheikha Hoor bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of the Sharjah Architecture Triennial, has been appointed Artistic Director of this year’s Triennale, a significant cultural milestone.

Expressing their appreciation for the warm hospitality, the Japanese delegation commended Sheikh Sultan’s long-standing commitment to supporting the arts and fostering creativity.

According to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), the delegation also praised Sheikha Hoor for her global contributions to contemporary art and her leadership in the cultural sphere.

The meeting concluded with an exchange of commemorative gifts and official group photographs.

In attendance were Sheikha Hoor bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of the Sharjah Art Foundation and the Sharjah Architecture Triennial; Sheikha Nawar bint Ahmed Al Qasimi, Director of the Sharjah Art Foundation; IMANISHI Jun, Consul-General of Japan in Dubai and the Northern Emirates; as well as senior officials from Aichi Prefecture’s cultural sector.
