TOKYO: Japanese Communist Party Central Committee Chair SHII Kazuo has issued a party statement condemning Israel’s renewed ground operation in Gaza, demanding its immediate cessation, and calling for the implementation of sanctions against Israel.
Commenting on Israel’s renewed ground operation in the Gaza Strip, Shii says, “This action escalates the genocide campaign to a new level, as Israel has continued attacks and obstructed the delivery of aid supplies since violating the January ceasefire agreement. It is utterly unacceptable.”
Shii notes that the International Court of Justice has declared Israel’s occupation of Palestine to be in violation of international law, while the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution calling on Israel to end its occupation within one year and called on member states to implement non-military measures and sanctions, such as banning arms exports to Israel.
While the Japanese government supports the UN resolution, Shii says “concrete actions must now follow, such as canceling plans to import Israeli-made attack drones and suspending negotiations on an economic partnership agreement with Israel.”
The statement concluded: “The JCP urgently calls for intensified efforts in Japan to stop the genocide in Gaza.”
