CAIRO: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Sunday began a three-day state visit to France in response to an invitation from President Emmanuel Macron. 

“The visit reflects both countries’ keenness to strengthen the strategic relations between them,” Egyptian presidential spokesman Bassam Rady said.  

The leaders will discuss bilateral ties and joint political coordination regarding regional and international issues, Al-Ahram Newspaper said. 

El-Sisi arrived at Paris Orly Airport and was due later on Sunday to meet French foreign minister Jean-Yves Le Drian.

The centerpiece of the visit will be talks with the French president at the Elysee Palace on Monday where Macron is expected to seek to cement the strong ties between Cairo and Paris.

The Egyptian president is also set to meet the French prime minister, a number of other ministers and senior officials, including the presidents of the country’s National Assembly and Senate.
