Japan’s Defense Minister Kono Taro has discussed ways to cement the Jordanian-Japanese strategic partnership and several Middle East issues during his meeting with Jordan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, in Amman on Sunday.
According to Jordan’s Petra news agency, the two ministers discussed international efforts to eliminate Daesh, and ways to combat terrorism militarily and intellectually.
“Safadi stressed Jordan’s appreciation of the assistance that Japan provides to the Kingdom to support economic development and address the consequences of regional crises, especially the Syrian refugee crisis,” Petra said on its website.

Japan’s support to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) was also praised during the meeting.
Meanwhile, a tweet released by Japan’s Ministry of Defense on Sunday gave details of the meetings held by Kono during his visit to Jordan.
“On Dec 15, Defense Minister Kono, who is visiting Jordan, held a meeting with Lieutenant General Yousef HUNEITI, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Jordanian Armed Forces and Advisor to HM the King; and exchanged views on bilateral defense cooperation and exchanges,” the tweet said.
