University of Tokyo, MISK Foundation sign a Memorandum of Understanding

The establishment of Mohammed bin Salman Center for Future Science and Technology for Saudi-Japan Vision 2030 at The University of Tokyo(MbSC2030)is based on the Japan-Saudi Vision 2030.

The University of Tokyo and the MiSK Foundation at the MiSK Initiative Center (MIC) which was established by the crown prince Mohammad bin Salman have sealed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to found the Mohammed bin Salman Center for Future Science and Technology for Saudi-Japan Vision 2030 at The University of Tokyo(MbSC2030)which is based on the Japan-Saudi Vision 2030.

The signing ceremony of the MoU will be held on February 14, 2020 in the presence of the president of the University of Tokyo, Gonokami Makoto, the chairman of MIC, Bader al Asaker, and the ambassador from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Japan, Nayef bin Marzouq bin Manea Al-Fahadi.

On this alignment, the chairman of MIC, Asaker noted that the Japan-Saudi relationship has been a strong and special one for more than 60 years, and there is no doubt that there will be hopes for more alignments in a variety of different fields. Furthermore, he was certain that there will be an increase in cooperation in especially the field of science, technology, research, and education with the today’s announcement of the establishment of the MbSC2030 at the University of Tokyo.

He went on to explain that the MoU is an extension of the existing partnership between the MiSK Foundation and the University of Tokyo. Already there are around 60 young Saudi Arabians who are learning from Japanese industry experts and researchers at the University of Tokyo. In addition, they are completing a global leadership program in the field of renewable energy by visiting the factories and research facilities.

The president of the University of Tokyo, Gonokami mentioned the agreement between the School of Engineering at the University of Tokyo and the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, and the above mentioned global leadership program conducted at the School of Engineering at the University of Tokyo commissioned by the MiSK Foundation. He thanked the continued cooperative relationship between the University of Tokyo and Saudi Arabia and expressed his hopes for even further development.

The MiSK Foundation is a non-profit organization which was established in 2011 by the crown prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammad bin Salman to support the development of technology, culture, media, and education. It aims to develop human resources at Saudi Arabia and contribute to its future economic development through supporting scholarships for Saudi Arabian students and world-class universities.

The MbSC2030 aims to contribute to the innovation of scientific research and technological development in Saudi Arabia and Japan in the core fields of big data, cyber security, renewable energy, energy saving, mechatronics, robotics, medical science, and biomedical science. In addition, the center will play a crucial role in supporting full-time Saudi Arabian students at the University of Tokyo.
