The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman sent a cable of condolences to Emperor Naruhito of Japan on the victims of the earthquake that struck central Japan.

King Salman said: “We have been informed of the news of the earthquake that struck central Japan and the resulting deaths and injuries, and as we share with Your Majesty the pain of this casualty, we send to you, the families of the deceased, and your friendly people, our deepest condolences and sincere sympathy, wishing the injured a speedy recovery, and that you do not see any harm.”

The Crown Prince said: “I have been informed of the news of the earthquake that struck central Japan and the resulting deaths and injuries. I express to Your Majesty, the families of the deceased, and your friendly people my deepest condolences and sincere sympathy, wishing the injured a speedy recovery and that you will not see any harm.”

The 7.5 magnitude quake on January 1 that rattled Ishikawa prefecture on the main island of Honshu triggered tsunami waves more than a meter high, sparked a major fire and tore apart roads.

The toll was expected to climb as Japanese rescuers scrambled to search for survivors on Wednesday as authorities warned of landslides and heavy rain hampering the efforts.
