LONDON: Saudi Arabia recorded almost 2,500 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday.

Over the past 24 hours, 2,476 people tested positive for the virus, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Kingdom to 255,825.

Of that number, 284 people tested positive in Jeddah, while 158 new cases were recorded in Riyadh and 143 in Taif.

A total of 4,000 people who had previously tested positive for COVID-19 recovered from the virus in the past 24 hours, the ministry added, which raises the number of recoveries in Saudi Arabia to 207,259.

There were 34 recorded fatalities from the virus, meaning the Kingdom’s death toll stands at 2,557.
