TOKYO:  Tokyo Tower, the iconic landmark modeled after the Eiffel Tower in Paris, marked its 65th anniversary on Dec. 23, with bright star illuminations that attracted crowds of visitors. The tower, which opened in 1958, was designed as a transmission tower with observation decks that have attracted over 150 million visitors.

A one-year period from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024, will be designated as the “65th anniversary year of Tokyo Tower’s opening” and will be used on websites, SNS, official shops, and various events.

The number of stars and the number 65 placed on both sides of the tower clearly mark the anniversary, and the tower itself has been dressed as a character to reflect Japan’s globally recognized character culture, said the company that operates the tower.  The company also wanted to express a warm welcome and hospitality to all visitors.

Tokyo Tower is a communications and observation tower in the Shiba Gardens district of Minato. At 332.9 meters, it is the second-tallest structure in Japan and remains a popular tourist destination with about 3 million visitors a year.
