DUBAI: Yoichi Takahashi, the legendary manga creator behind the iconic football animated series Captain Tsubasa (Captain Majid in the Middle East region), is set to make an appearance at Middle East Film & Comic Con 2024 for one day only on Feb. 11.

The manga has sold over 90 million copies worldwide, and the iconic anime, which aired in 1983, has become one of the most popular anime shows in the Middle East region.

A YouGov survey conducted by Arab News Japan in 2019 regarding the region’s favorite Japanese anime showed that 75% of respondents across all age groups ranked “Captain Tsubasa” as their favorite anime of all time.

A representative from The Little Things commented on his appearance, saying, “It’s an absolute delight for Captain Tsubasa fans to have the legendary creator himself come to MEFCC; it will surely hit us with that childhood nostalgia of rushing back home and tuning in to every episode of the hit anime.”

“With that in mind, we will be sure to bring collectibles of popular characters that Yoichi Takahashi created for the Captain Tsubasa series,” he added.

MEFCC has become a premier destination for fans of comics, movies, TV shows, anime, and gaming in the region. The annual event draws together a diverse community of enthusiasts, creators, and industry professionals.

It will be held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, and tickets are now on sale.
