Moroccan idol in Japanese group captures fans’ attention on social media

DUBAI: Born in Japan to Moroccan and South Korean parents, Saiki Weesa from the Japanese pop group PSYCHIC FEVER from EXILE TRIBE is going viral on TikTok for his diverse background and impressive talent following the band’s latest release. 

Consisting of seven members, Wessa is the group’s youngest and one of the original members of the group.

The boy group was formed in 2019 and officially debuted in 2022 with an album titled ‘P.C.F’ that consisted of 10 songs. 

In January, they released a digital EP titled ‘99.9 Psyhic Radio,’ produced by Japanese hip-hop artist JP THE WAVY, followed by an EP titled ‘PSYCHIC FILE II’ which was released in April. The latter has topped the Japanese Billboard charts, making the band’s songs go viral.

A video of Wessa that gained more than half a million views on TikTok, introduced the member and the group to many active users on the website.

Many users expressed their delight and excitement to see an Arab idol in a Japanese group. Additionally, the group has been getting positive praise for their diversity, as PSYCHIC FEVER also includes a Nigerian member.

In 2022, Wessa went viral in South Korea following the group’s performance at the South Korean music awards, the Genie Music Awards, as he received praise for his appearance and performance. 

Currently, the group’s song ‘Just Like Dat’ is trending on TikTok in Japan, as many users participated in its dance challenge. The song surpassed 6 million streams on Spotify.

The group will be performing across Japan in May and June
