UK-based imprint maharishi looks back to the future with it’s “2020VISION” for Spring/Summer 2020.Unveiling its collection in a look book, Maharishi reflects on how the 90’s imagined the year 2020.

The collection brings a combination archetypal designs with takes vintage kimono fabric and reworks it into appliqué, an ornamental needlework in which pieces of fabric in different shapes and patterns are sewn or stuck onto a larger piece to form a picture or pattern.

Maharishi modernizes vintage silk kimonos into contemporary textile combinations that mix orthodox kimonos with everyday street wear.

Traditional silk kimono prints, and colors are incorporated into casual clothing, notably, long sleeve T-shirts, short sleeve T-shirts and straight-fit snow pants made from summer poly-cotton.

The designs feature hand embroidered fighter jets with contrails made from various patterns of silk kimonos extending across the clothing, positioned to give the impression that kimonos are the jet’s contrails. The ‘Vapour Trail Collection’ use jets and contrails to emphasize the brand’s military underpinnings, which stem from their use of upcycled military clothing within their collections.

The T-shirts are offered in black and white iterations with multicolored trails, and the snow pants are offered in black and olive, with multicolored trails.
