The Japanese discount store chain Don Quijote has released a new commercial starring American singer and songwriter Bruno Mars performing a catchy song dedicated to the store.
The commercial was filmed at the Mega Donki branch in Shibuya and features Mars strolling around the store alongside four Japanese dancers with the store’s slogan, Donki Ikuyo, repeating in the background. The store’s mascot, Donpen, also makes an appearance.
The American singer showcased his excitement for the ad on Instagram, saying, “Made a quick trip to Japan to get some snacks at my favorite store.” The video, which posted on Aug. 20, received positive feedback from viewers as it received more than 20 million views.
Miyu, one of the dancers who appeared in the videos, reflected on the experience on Instagram, saying, “I wish to thank (Mars) for finding me among millions of other dancers and for his interest in house dance and my style.”
“Now I understand why everybody loves Bruno and why his music touches so many people’s hearts,” she added.
Mars performed in Japan earlier this year, where he showcased his love for Japanese culture by posting photos of him wearing a Pokémon hat and covering a song by iconic Japanese group AKB48.
