TOKYO: In a telephone conversation with Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Japanese Foreign Minister KAMIKAWA Yoko said Japan “strongly condemns the attacks by Hamas and other Palestinian militants, especially attacks on, and kidnapping of, innocent civilians.”

Such attacks could not be justified for any reason, Kamikawa told Safadi. The Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister replied that he shares such concern about the situation on the ground and explained Jordan’s diplomatic efforts in the wake of the attack.

Kamikawa appreciated Jordan’s diplomatic efforts and stated that Japan has been communicating with the parties concerned in order to prevent further escalation of the situation. She added that Japan would like to continue working on the matter in cooperation with Jordan.

Kamikawa, who is visiting Brunei, said Japan is deeply concerned about the number of casualties caused by attacks from the Israeli side.

The ministers noted that violence “does not produce anything good” and agreed to maintain close cooperation, including reaching out to the respective parties to try and prevent any further escalation of the situation.
