DUBAI: ‘Geek Community Day Vol.2’, an exciting event organized for the anime and video game fans in the UAE, was held on Jan. 18 and 19 in Dubai.

Hosted by Rove Hotel in collaboration with Hobby Nation, the second edition of the event featured exciting activities for pop culture and entertainment enthusiasts like tabletop board games, video games, and vendor stalls.

Trina Angeles, Event Operations Manager at Hobby Nation, said about the event: “It was an amazing event where there were many highlights and activities such as a ‘Tamiya Mini 4WD’ competition, cosplay games, a quiz, an artist avenue, a Gunpla community building workshop, a comic-making workshop, Japan in Arabia’s origami workshop, and gaming tournaments.”

“The standout feature was undoubtedly the sense of togetherness we created. We brought different communities under one roof, offering them the chance to meet, connect, and build new friendships. It was all about breaking down boundaries and fostering a real sense of community spirit,” she added.

Regarding the feedback from the visitors, Angeles said, “The response has been very positive. Many first-timers loved the organization, vibe, and sense of community. We are, after all, a community supporting and giving back to the community. The quiz was successful and almost twice the number of teams competed compared to the last event.”

Hobby Nation is looking forward to planning more community events in the future. “We are planning to do ‘Cosplay Brunch: Final Edition’ before Ramadan at a different ROVE venue and we will have our signature Ramadan event, “The Great Iftar,” where we will announce more details about it soon.”

Japan in Arabia’s founder Jason Ishida commented on the event, saying, “There were a wide range of activities and many talented artists and creators with their items for sale. There were also many competitions, including racing, gaming, tabletop games, and the ever-popular quiz.”

“Overall, it was an amazing two-day community event and I can’t wait for the next one. We were there to share Japanese culture through the art of calligraphy and origami.  Hiromi Fyfe taught everyone, from Star Wars cosplayers to young children, how to fold fun shapes like baby Yoda and Pikachu.” he added.

Hobby Nation is a destination for toy addicts, video game enthusiasts, movie lovers, and comic book fans that strives to build the biggest community of hobbyists and collectors in the United Arab Emirates.
