DUBAI: Uprizing Alley XL, a community event where pop culture enthusiasts meet, was held recently in Dubai. The three-day event featured different activities such as cosplay, live performances, and a gaming zone. 

Various artists showcased and sold handmade items and products of their creations, such as artworks, shirts, stickers, and more. Local collectors have displayed and sold collectables and merchandise. 

The gaming zone featured retro games consoles and arcade machines where many visitors had fun playing classic games from previous years.

One of the participants said about the event: “These kinds of events are fun and important to many fans who want to meet artists and buy their creations and collectables, as well as meet other talents and collectors to learn and exchange information about their favorite hobbies and pop culture fandom.”

Japan In Arabia, a UAE-based community that focuses on promoting Japanese culture, held an origami workshop at the event in n collaboration with master origami artist and Guinness World Record holder Jamila Navagharwala. “Witnessing the enthusiasm and creativity of all participants was truly heartwarming,” said Jason Ishida, founder of Japan In Arabia. “We were especially moved by the engagement of children as young as seven, who transformed simple paper into beautiful artwork. Many attendees contributed to our origami visual display, creating an atmosphere of wonder and shared achievement.” 

“Seeing people of all ages discover the joy of origami was incredibly fulfilling. We extend our sincere thanks to all participants and look forward to bringing more cultural experiences to the community in the future,” he added.

Abdulla Allouz, Uprizing Events Management’s founder and director, told Arab News Japan that the event received positive responses from attendees. “Visitors praised the variety of attractions and the vibrant community atmosphere and expressed excitement for upcoming editions and requested specific activities.” 

Regarding Uprizing’s upcoming events, Allouz said: “We are planning on future iterations of Uprizing Alley across the UAE, with new themes and activations as well as expanding into larger-scale events, including the development of a major pop culture convention. Also, we are looking for more artist and vendor opportunities, strengthening creative community engagement and exploration of new activations, such as workshops, live experiences, and interactive zones.”
