TOKYO: Netflix is set to stream Studio Ghibli’s ‘Grave of the Fireflies’ starting July 15 in Japan.

The Japanese animation studio and Netflix have been collaborating since 2020, and this will be the first of their films to be streamed on Netflix in Japan.

Directed by Isao Takahata, the film tells the story of two orphans struggling to survive in World War II-era Japan.

Netflix began streaming the film in 190 countries on September 16, 2024. It quickly rose to seventh place in the weekly global Top 10 non-English films rankings, leaving Japanese fans eager for its domestic release.
