RIYADH: The Fashion Commission (FC) and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) have announced a new partnership aimed at promoting sustainability in the Saudi fashion industry.
The collaboration stems from one of FC’s core tenets: educating local designers to preserve cultural heritage.
The initiative was launched on February 18 and ran until February 20. The exhibition, titled “Sustainable Style: A Journey into Japanese Textile Mastery,” took place at FCR in Riyadh and showcased the beauty of Japanese textiles.
Following the exhibition, a series of engaging workshops were held for Saudi designers and textile professionals, aimed at advancing their skills and knowledge. By bringing together Saudi and Japanese talents, the collaboration broadened both professional and cultural horizons.
The event celebrated the rich cultural heritage of both Saudi and Japanese textile arts and highlighted how traditional techniques can be integrated into contemporary design.
Burak Cakmak, CEO of the Fashion Commission, said: “This collaboration reinforces the Fashion Commission’s commitment to empowering local designers, strengthening the fashion ecosystem, and integrating cultural heritage with sustainability. ‘A Journey into Japanese Textile Mastery’ marks an important step in fostering creative dialogue between Saudi and Japanese talents, reflecting the Commission’s mission to drive innovation and shape a more responsible, future-focused fashion industry.”
