TOKYO: American video game publisher Activision unveiled its highly anticipated Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 with a cinematic teaser that closed out Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase, setting the stage for the franchise’s next major installment.
The trailer, published on June 8, hints at a psychological and “mind-bending” storyline, set in the year 2035. The game serves as a direct sequel to Black Ops 2 (set in 2025) and Black Ops 6 (set in the 1990s).
It continues the saga of David Mason, son of original protagonist Alex Mason, as he faces off against a manipulative enemy who uses fear as a weapon.
The teaser also strongly suggests the return of fan-favorite villain Raul Menendez, whose influence remains decades after the events of Black Ops 2.
Developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, Black Ops 7 marks a milestone as the first back-to-back release in the Black Ops sub-series.
The game is set to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, while also supporting previous-generation consoles PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. In a first for the franchise, it will also be available day one on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
While Activision has not confirmed an official release date, Call of Duty titles traditionally launch in the fall, suggesting a likely release window in late 2025.
