DUBAI: Rumors are swirling about Sony’s next-gen PlayStation 6, with reports suggesting a release as early as 2026–2028, following Sony’s typical 6-7 year console cycle. While no official announcement has been made, leaks hint at major hardware upgrades and possible new features.

The PS6 is expected to continue Sony’s partnership with AMD, possibly featuring a custom Zen 4 processor with up to 12 cores and a new GPU architecture offering up to 18 TFLOPS of power.

Enhanced ray tracing, 4K/120fps performance, and even 8K support have been speculated. Storage may jump to a 2TB PCIe 5.0 NVMe SSD, while GDDR7 RAM could power faster load times and larger open-world environments.

AI and machine learning could play a bigger role through Sony’s Project Amethyst collaboration with AMD, potentially expanding on upscaling technologies like PSSR introduced in the PS5 Pro.

Backward compatibility is expected to improve, possibly allowing support for PS4, PS5, and future titles. Design changes may focus on a smaller, more customizable form factor, with features like wireless charging for accessories, deeper VR integration, and modular upgrades being rumored.

Pricing may rise significantly, with some analysts suggesting a $1,000 price point, following the PS5 Pro’s recent $699 launch.

One of the most talked-about rumors involves a dedicated PS6 handheld device. Leaks suggest it would feature a 15W custom SoC on a 3nm process, offering power levels above the Xbox Series S but below the PS5, designed for portable gaming while staying tied to PS6 architecture.

While much remains unconfirmed, anticipation for Sony’s next console generation is steadily building.
