Multimedia Artist Daniel Arsham announced the launch of a new editions platform exclusively for China called “Archive Editions” via Instagram on March 13.

The project’s inaugural release is a collaborative edition with the Japanese media franchise Pokémon, also known as Pocket Monsters in Japan.

The Ohio-born artist is the first visual artist to be granted access to the Pokémon archive, having developed a newly crafted “Eroded Pikachu” sculpture as the first installment.

“As the first visual artist to be granted access to the Pokémon Archive, my intention with the project was to not only bring the universe of Pokémon and the characters into my work, but to have my work infiltrate the Pokémon universe, as well,” Arsham said in an Instagram post on April 9.

Modeled after the famed Pokémon mascot, the sculpture serves as a monument of Kanto uncovered through the passage of time, as part of Arshams’s "Relics of Kanto through time” sculptural collection, which reimagines Pokémon unearthing a thousand years from now.

The edition will be comprised of 500 pieces, with each measuring 33 centimeters in hight and 5.13 kilograms in weight.

The “Eroded Pikachu” structure will arrive at the Arsham studio packaged with die-cut foam, a sealing label, and a pair of white art handling gloves.

The exclusive work will coincide with Arsham’s "Uniqlo UT" collection that will be  released on April 24.
