The Pokémon Company presented its upcoming multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game Pokémon UNITE at a virtual presentation on June 24.

TiMi Studios, a China-based video game developing company, and Tencent, a Chinese holding company specializing in technology, worked together to develop the game.

The release is the result of the Pokémon Company signing with Tencent, fulfilling the latter’s intent to tap into the console market.

The game is unique in that it includes recognizable Pokémon characters like Snorlax, Gengar, Charmelon, Blastoise, Lucario, with each possessing a special “Unite” move.

Users also need to refine their moves as they progress from level to level making this the first ever Pokémon game to combine strategic play and team battle.  The game allows for 5v5 teams to play against one another in real-time, competing to score the highest number of points during the match to win.

This is made easier through the game’s crossplay-platform feature, allowing users to access the game on both smartphones and the Nintendo Switch.

The free-to-start game does not have a fixed release date but a trailer is available showcasing the upcoming release and its features.
