Cartoonist Elisa Macellari has created a graphic novel based off Japanese contemporary, installation artist Yayoi Kusama.
Some of Kusama’s works include the upcoming exhibition at Gropius Bau, Berlin that has been postponed because of the pandemic, as well as past exhibits like the mirrored “infinity rooms” in Saudi Arabia.
The biography, titled KUSAMA: A Graphic Biography, will cover Kusama’s life through a series of 400 illustrations.
The 128 page book will feature Kusama’s renowned polka-dot works—an artistic style that stems from a childhood hallucination she had.
It will also explore Kusama’s early years in Japan, followed by New York in the 1960s, and her return home.
Macellari’s biography is set to be released in September, 2020 for approximately $19.99 USD.
