Japanese art collective teamLab is back again with another immersive exhibition, one that aims to bring together art, and wellness by inviting viewers into a space that nourishes the mind, body and soul.

The exhibition will consist of a sauna, and cold bath that double as art installations, and teamLab encourages participants to alternate between the spaces while also taking time to rest.

Visitors can expect to pay ¥4,800 on weekdays and ¥5,800 on weekends to visit, this exhibition will be open from March 22 to August 31.

TeamLab’s exhibition Reconnect will feature installations that respond to viewers, including digital flowers that carry out a life and death cycle, called ‘Proliferating Immense Life – A Whole Year per Year.’ The vibrancy of the flowers are balanced out by the peaceful, tranquil circle of light present in the cold bathing area, called ‘Step into the Light Circle.’

In the sauna area, viewers can look above and watch the colourful lamps titled ‘Array and Spiral of Resonating Lamps – One Stroke, Metropolis Tokyo.’

“By taking alternating hot and cold baths, visitors open their minds, experience an ever-expanding physical sensation, and become one with the art. Recognizing that the mind, body, and environment are the wholeness of our being, we reconnect to the world and time,” teamLab’s website states.

The collective also asserts that oscillating between these spaces will achieve a ‘sauna trance’—a neurological state whereby “senses sharpen, the mind clears, the beauty of the surrounding world comes into focus, and what normally goes unnoticed can be experienced.”

Art enthusiasts can also catch a glimpse of exhibition by using the teamLab Reconnect filter on TikTok.
