TOKYO: The Tokyo metropolitan government will show a work possibly by anonymous British artist Banksy at Hinode Pier in Minato Ward from Monday, according to a recent announcement.

The painting of what appears to be a mouse holding an umbrella was discovered on a tide gate near Hinode Station on the Yurikamome automated guideway transit system in the ward.

When the metropolitan government displayed the work at its office for 14 days between late April and early May, it attracted more than 35,000 visitors.

The exhibition was decided after the metropolitan government received a request from locals to use it as a tourism resource.

It remains unclear whether the painting is truly a work by the artist.

"I hope that (the painting) will contribute to livening up the local area," said an official at the Bureau of Port and Harbor.
