TOKYO: Tokyo prosecutors on Friday arrested Yuji Naka, the 57-year-old creator of the “Sonic the Hedgehog” game series, over alleged insider trading in shares of a game maker.
Naka, then an employee at game maker Square Enix Co., allegedly purchased 10,000 shares in Aiming Inc. for about 2.8 million yen in January 2020, based on insider information about a smartphone-based online game being developed jointly by Square Enix and Aiming.
He is known for having created the “Sonic the Hedgehog” series when he was working at gaming maker Sega Corp., a unit of Sega Sammy Holdings Inc.
In the insider trading case, Tokyo prosecutors on Thursday arrested Taisuke Sazaki, 38, another former Square Enix employee, and Fumiaki Suzuki, a 40-year-old acquaintance of Sazaki, for their alleged involvement.
