DUBAI: John Wick: Chapter 4, the sequel to John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019) and the fourth addition to the John Wick franchise premiered in Reel Cinemas at Dubai Mall on April 17th.
The premiere was attended by fans who were excited to see the talented Keanu Reeves return in his famous leading role in the latest movie in the franchise.
Mehreen Feroz, e-commerce consultant and entrepreneur shared her feedback about the movie saying, ”John Wick: Chapter 4 is an adrenaline-fueled experience from beginning to end, filled with high-energy moments that never slow down. The fighting scenes are skillfully planned, featuring Reeves executing a number of impressive acrobatics, while the cinematography is visually breathtaking”.
“The movie boasts a remarkable ensemble of secondary characters, comprising both familiar faces like Laurence Fishburne and Ian McShane, and fresh ones such as Donnie Yen, who was incredibly amusing and, personally, my favorite Hiroyuki Sanada. Scott Adkins, Shamier Anderson, and Bill Skarsgård also delivered impactful portrayals. The fourth installment of John Wick is undeniably an enjoyable and visually impressive movie, featuring rarely seen action scenes that are sure to captivate viewers. I’m eager to revisit it multiple times in the future,” she also added.
As John Wick fans already expect, the film stars Reeves as John Wick, alongside Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgård, Laurence Fishburne, Hiroyuki Sanada, Shamier Anderson, Rina Sawayama, Scott Adkins, Clancy Brown, Ian McShane and the late Lance Reddick who passed away in March at the age of 60.
In the film, John Wick sets out to get revenge on the high table as well as those who left him to die and go through different challenges and places such as Japan to achieve his goal.
Development for a fourth John Wick film was confirmed before the release of its predecessor; it was formally announced by Lionsgate in May 2019.
This is the first film in the franchise not to be written by franchise creator Derek Kolstad, with Hatten hired in May 2020, followed by Finch in March 2021. Principal photography took place from June to October 2021, with filming locations including France, Germany, New York City, and Japan.
Originally set for release on May 21, 2021, John Wick: Chapter 4 faced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film had its premiere at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square in London on March 6, 2023, and was released in the United States on March 24, by Lionsgate.
It received positive reviews from critics and has grossed over $365 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing film in the franchise and the fifth highest-grossing film of 2023.
