TOKYO: Toyota Motor Corp. said Tuesday its net profit jumped in the April-June period thanks to higher vehicle production and sales, topping 1 trillion yen for the first time in any fiscal first quarter.
The Japanese automaker posted a consolidated net profit of 1,311.3 billion yen for the three months ended on June 30, up 78 percent from a year before.
The company saw its vehicle production and sales recover from the fallouts of semiconductor shortages and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Revenue rose 24.2 percent to 10,546.8 billion yen, hitting a record high for the third consecutive first quarter.
Operating profit soared 93.7 percent to 1,120.9 billion yen, surpassing 1 trillion yen for the first time.
