Japan to provide ¥14 bln financial assistance to Jordan in 2024

DUBAI: The Japanese government will provide financial assistance of approximately 14 billion Japanese yen to Jordan in 2024, depending on the country’s needs, Prime Minister Kishida told King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein on Saturday. 

The Japanese Prime Minister and the Jordanian King held a working lunch for around 60 minutes during Kishida’s visit to Dubai for COP28, where Kishida shared that Japan will make preparations to provide financial assistance while confirming Jordan’s reforms in economic and fiscal management. King Abdullah showcased his appreciation for Japan’s assistance. 

In a separate meeting, Kishida also shared that Japan will be preparing to provide financial assistance of approximately 33 billion Japanese yen to Egypt next year

Additionally, the two leaders also discussed the current situation in Gaza, as Kishida welcomed the pause and release of hostages while urging all parties to comply with international law and return to an agreement to calm down the situation as soon as possible.  

King Abdullah expressed his appreciation for Japan’s assistance regarding the crisis and explained Japan’s diplomatic and humanitarian efforts. 

The two leaders agreed to continue to work together and to further improve their bilateral relations in various areas. 

The Japanese Prime Minister was also supposed to hold a meeting the President of the United Arab Emirates but it was canceled due to scheduling difficulties.
