RIYADH: The Saudi Energy Ministry and NEOM have joined hands to promote the introduction of the latest technologies in the Kingdom’s energy sector.

The two sides have signed a memorandum of understanding that aims to enhance cooperation and devise a strategy to develop the sector along modern lines, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

Under the deal, both entities will follow up on achievements and areas of improvement, as well as conduct a periodic review of the progress.

In addition, both parties will provide technical and organizational solutions in advancing renewable energy technologies, hydrogen, and sustainability. They will also focus on fostering innovation and exploring appropriate mechanisms within the sector.

The deal seeks to integrate the two parties and the energy system entities, including the Water and Electricity Regulatory Authority, the Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Commission, and King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy, etc. 

In October last, NEOM’s water and electricity subsidiary ENOWA announced it was taking a proactive role in decreasing the carbon footprint of the energy-intensive desalination process. 

In an interview with Arab News on the sidelines of the Middle East and North Africa Climate Week forum in Riyadh, ENOWA’s CEO Peter Terium said using renewable energy in this industry was a key part of reducing harmful emissions in the region and worldwide.
