RIYADH. (Saudi Arabia) Asian participants in the AI GAIN 24 summit, which ended on September 13 in Riyadh, have noted the significant expansion of Saudi Arabia’s presence in the high-tech global industry. This expansion is not just in terms of investment and development, but also in terms of leadership and innovation. The success of this year’s summit in attracting officials and companies from around the world, all seeking to invest in Saudi Arabia’s burgeoning AI sector, particularly in research and development, infrastructure, and talent acquisition, they said.

Participants from Japan, China, Hong Kong, and Singapore, among others, expressed strong optimism about Saudi Arabia’s AI drive. They foresee the kingdom’s rapid ascent to global power status in this sector, much like its current status as a global hub for oil and energy resources. Their positive outlook is a beacon of hope for the potential impact of Saudi Arabia’s AI drive on the global AI industry.

The summit, which has drawn thousands of participants from across the globe, has seen some Asian presence from the AI industry and the media. In West Asia, Saudi Arabia is increasingly considered a crucial partner to the rest of Asia.

One participant from Japan expressed his profound admiration for the changes he witnessed in Riyadh’s infrastructure, a testament to the city’s rapid transformation. He was particularly impressed by the widespread integration of high-tech in almost all aspects of life, such as smart transportation systems and digitalized public services, which he saw as a clear sign of the city’s forward-thinking approach.

Another participant from Hong Kong echoed the sentiment, noting that the AI Gain Summit reflects the Saudi leadership’s forward-looking approach. This approach is particularly evident in its investment in AI research and development and its efforts to create a conducive environment for AI startups. The leadership’s vision and strategy in these areas, he believes, will position Saudi Arabia as a key player in the global AI industry.

Ministers from countries belonging to the so-called global south gave speeches in the Monday sessions. They emphasized the importance of holding this summit in Riyadh, a clear indication of the kingdom’s growing influence in the global AI industry. Their words showed that future cooperation is not just a possibility but a matter of time.
