Japan, Saudi Arabia to enhance cooperation on esports, gaming

TOKYO: Japan’s Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) ISHII Taku says Japan is looking to work closely with Saudi Arabia in the areas of gaming and esports, focusing particularly on upcoming major events.

Ishii said METI is working on bilateral cooperation with Saudi Arabia around EXPO 2025 in Osaka and the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Saudi Arabia, as well as well other events such as the Olympic Esports Games, the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026, and the Riyadh Expo 2030.

To this end, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Ishii met with Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Sultan Al-Saud, the Chairman of Saudi Arabia’s eSports Federation.

According to METI, Prince Faisal told Ishii that he would like to make the most of the opportunities between the two countries to expand interaction between their people and companies.
