DUBAI: Japan’s Mori Memorial Foundation revealed in its Global Power City Index (GPCI) report that Dubai is the cleanest city in the world for the fifth year in a row, reflecting the city’s efforts in sustainability and leadership.

The ranking showcases Dubai’s commitment to become the standard of future cities as it keeps leading the way in sustainable development. The Emirate achieved 100% satisfaction in the metric ‘measuring city cleanliness’, outperforming 47 cities worldwide.

Alongside the Dubai Integrated Waste Management Strategy 2041, which targets an 18% reduction in waste production and 100% diversion of waste from landfills by 2041, the Dubai Municipality was capable of implementing strategies and initiatives that put Dubai in the spotlight.

The consistent ranking of the Emirate is a reflection of its ambitious vision to become the world’s best city to live and work in, according to Dubai Municipality’s Acting Director General Marwan bin Ghalita.

“Leadership and excellence are built on teamwork, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to the highest standards. Dubai’s faith in its teams has established a global benchmark for future cities, defined by innovation, sustainability, and exceptional quality of life,” he said.

Moreover, he praised the Emirate’s commitment to cleanliness. With teams consisting of more than 3,200 monitors, supervisors, and engineers, Dubai was able to keep its ideal standards for five years. He stressed the importance of the public and private sectors collaborating alongside Dubai’s communities to achieve this ranking.

The Municipality overlooks a variety of cleaning programs, including, but not limited to, 2,400 kilometres of main roads and highways, investment zones spanning 1,419 square kilometres, and 33.4 kilometres of water canals and creeks. The programs also include hazardous and medical waste treatment, providing community e-services such as household furniture disposal, and handling the removal of abandoned vehicles and equipment.

Dubai Municipality uses innovative technologies to guarantee the sustainability of its natural resources, including developing smart systems for waste collection and adopting electric vehicles for public cleaning operations.
