TOKYO: North Korea’s Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Kim Seon-kei on Friday attacked United States’ Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield, accusing her of dereliction of duty by visiting East Asia instead of the Middle East.

“In general, the permanent representatives on the United Nations Security Council are the highest-ranking diplomats who struggle to protect world peace and security,” Kim said, adding, “I think the United States is no exception to such a concept, but Thomas Greenfield, the US ambassador to the United Nations, seems to have forgotten her duty.”

Kim said Greenfield doesn’t seem to have any idea what the most pressing concerns are for the United States. He noted that the diplomatic world is focused on the crisis in the Middle East, including the issue of Palestine’s accession to the United Nations and the security issues involving Israel.

“But the US ambassador to the United Nations ignored all of these and dared to visit the Asian region,” Kim said, suggesting that the United States does not care about the peace and security of the Middle East region, including Palestine.

Kim said Greenfield’s visit to the Asian region is a “visit of losers who are trying to energize the illegal and lawless sanctions against Korea.”

“The United States has lost its presence on the international stage, including the United Nations, and Thomas Greenfield’s visit to the Asian region proves it. Under this US government, the United States has not returned to the world, but allowed the world to drift away from the United States.”

“Thomas Greenfield should stop the stupid act of exposing to all the world what the United States really has to worry about and fear. The diplomatic stage where Thomas Greenfield’s diplomatic skills as the US ambassador to the United Nations is on show is never to be found on the Korean Peninsula, but on the other side of the continent.”
