Japanese tech giant Toshiba will no longer be making PCs or laptops after selling its final stake in personal computer maker Dynabook.
In 2018, Sharp bought 80 percent of Toshiba’s PC business for ¥3.8 billion Japanese yen (USD $36 million) and has now bought the remaining shares, Toshiba said in a statement.
Toshiba released its first laptop, the T1100, in 1985. It weighed 4kg and was launched only in Europe, with annual sales target of 10,000 units, according to Toshiba.
The Japanese company then went on to be among the top producers of PCs and laptops in the industry. However, in recent years, demand for laptops has dwindled. In 2015, Toshiba posted a full-year loss of for ¥33.7 billion Japanese yen (USD $318 million.)
