RIYADH: The Secretary General of the International Energy Forum (IEF) Joseph McMonigle held a meeting with the newly appointed Japanese ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Iwai Fumio on Monday.

The discussion held at the Japanese Embassy in Riyadh focused on energy markets, current dialogue activities being organized by the IEF as well as the transition to a sustainable energy system and the important role that technology will play.

McMonigle said Japan was a very important member of the IEF. “It [Japan] has a unique role to play in today’s energy market and in the transition to a sustainable future,” he added. “I look forward to working closely with Japan and Ambassador Iwai as we pursue our shared objectives of energy security, market stability and data transparency.”

Ambassador Iwai also said that the IEF was a unique organization that allows both producing and consuming to “gather together to enhance their common interests in energy security and market stability.”

“As a representative of my country, Japan, I look forward to working closely with the International Energy Forum and Secretary General McMonigle as well as the host nation, Saudi Arabia,” he added.
