TOKYO: Japan’s Toshiba Corp. on Tuesday announced the resignation of President and CEO Satoshi Tsunakawa, effective immediately.
Mamoru Hatazawa, corporate senior executive vice president of the electronics and heavy machinery maker, also left his post, Toshiba said.
Corporate Senior Vice President Taro Shimada succeeded Tsunakawa as Toshiba president and CEO. Goro Yanase, president and CEO of Toshiba Elevator and Building Systems Corp., a Toshiba subsidiary, replaced Hatazawa.
The move came amid lingering confusion over the company’s plan to split itself.
Toshiba aims to accelerate efforts to put the company back on the right footing under the new management.
The appointments were approved at a meeting of the Toshiba board Tuesday.
The company is expected to hold a press conference as early as Tuesday afternoon.
