TOKYO: Japanese tire maker Bridgestone Corp. said Monday that it has decided to suspend operations at its plant in Russia in response to the country’s invasion of Ukraine.
The operations at the car tire plant will be suspended from Friday. The company halted its tire exports to Russia starting Monday.
Bridgestone’s sales in Russia account for less than 2 pct of its overall sales.
The company said that its 10 Japanese expatriates and their families in Russia have already returned to Japan. Its employees at the Russian plant and a local sales company total some 1,000.
Bridgestone and group companies plan to donate a total of about 500 million yen in aid to Ukraine.
