TOKYO: Japan has announced that SHIMMURA Izuru, the Consul-General of Japan in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, will concurrently be the first Representative of the Government of Japan to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which has its headquarters in Jeddah.

“We hope that the appointment of the Representative of Japan to the OIC will advance Japan’s relationship with the OIC and further develop our relationship with Islamic countries,” Japan’s Foreign Ministry on May 18 said.

The OIC consists of 57 Islamic states and regions, and conducts activities in a wide range of areas, including the Middle East Peace Process, and in strengthening the relationship between countries.
