TOKYO: Tokyo Mayor Yuriko Koike met with the Lord Mayor of London, Alderman Vincent Keaveny, to discuss carbon energy and green finance on Wednesday.

The Lord Mayor of London is the mayor and spokesperson for the City of London and is responsible for managing the affairs of the city and investments with overseas partners. The City of London is a small area in the middle of the metropolis, not Greater London.

Against the background of the Ukrainian crisis and Brexit, London is looking to Tokyo and its capacity for innovation to forge privileged economic partnerships based on environmental finance.

Carbon-based energy is a crucial issue for both cities as they try to reduce emissions to counter global warming.

The two city officials expressed concern about the Ukrainian crisis which is affecting the supply of fossil fuels and Alderman Keaveny added that carbon-based energies are a chance to reduce energy dependence on Russia.
