TOKYO: KOIKE Yuriko, the Governor of Tokyo, presented the Tokyo Financial Award trophies to innovative start-ups on Monday.

Two categories of prizes were awarded to six winners. The first category – Financial Innovation – focuses on start-ups that promote the domestic finance of Tokyoites using foreign finance. Three prizes were awarded, worth 3, 5 and 10 million yen.

The third prize went to INADA Fumiko, founder of Bee Informatica, a loan start-up that uses psychometric tests and which is based in Malaysia.

The second prize, worth 5 million yen, was awarded to Uzair Javaid, the founder of better data, which offers artificial intelligence services that anonymize and analyze personal data and monetize it without violating rules and laws on data protection.

The first prize was awarded to OKADA Tomohiro for the start-up KAERU, which is dedicated to familiarizing very old people who have degenerative diseases with the use of digital payments.

The second category – ESG Investment – focused on start-ups that promote domestic business and green finance.

The third prize in this category was awarded to SHUETSUGU Hiroshi, who explained that his company Sustain craft evaluates the CO2 absorption criteria for customers sensitive to the concept of carbon credit.

The second prize was awarded to SHIMIZU Eisuke, co-founder of OUI INC Japan, who created an eye disease application that can be detected through a smartphone and allows early detection of diseases that can lead to blindness.

KOBAYASHI Reiji, the young boss of HAKKI AFRICA INC., was awarded the first prize for his company’s activities in Africa based on microfinance and the reduction of CO2 by financing e-bikes.

A total of 183 companies from 43 countries participated in the competition.
