Saudi Arabian Mining Co (Ma’aden), the Gulf’s largest miner, said on Sunday it signed a joint declaration agreement with Japan’s Mitsui & Co. to be the first commercial supplier of blue ammonia to Japan during 2023, as it looks to cut carbon emissions and meet the world’s clean energy demands.
Ammonia is deemed blue when made with fossil fuel and a subsequent carbon capture and storage process (CCS). It has several applications and is one of several candidates to become the industry’s preferred zero-carbon shipping fuel.
This happens as mining company seeks to to create a global supply chain in blue ammonia in an effort to support the global transition to sustainable energy and decarbonize their existing operations.
