TOKYO: Honda Motor Co. said Wednesday that it will return to the Formula One World Championship auto racing series in 2026 as a supplier of power units, comprising engines and other parts.

Honda’s power units will be provided to the Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One Team, the major Japanese automaker said.

Aston Martin has momentum for winning the F1 championship, Honda President Toshihiro Mibe told a press conference at the Honda headquarters in Tokyo, adding that the team highly evaluates Honda’s power unit technology.

Officially, Honda ended its F1 activity as a power unit supplier in 2021 in order to put its management resources into next-generation vehicle technologies such as electrification.

As an engine supplier, Honda has won a total of 89 F1 races.

Since 2022, Honda Racing Corp. has provided technical support to the Red Bull group.
