In September 2021, KENZO assigned Japanese designer Nigo as their creative director, who started his career when he founded the streetwear brand A Bathing Tape in 1993. In 2020, the Japanese designer, alongside American designer Virgil Abloh, partnered with luxury brand Louis Vuitton for a capsule collection.
The new collection EAST MEETS WEST introduces the Japanese designer’s native culture mixed with American and British streetwear. The Fall/Winter 2023 pieces reflect the different eras that inspired the designer’s style.
Shot by Japanese photographer Keizo Kitajima, the cross-cultural line highlights Osaka’s colorful streets and Kyoto’s historical aspects, bridging the gap between Japan, the US, and the UK. Prices start at ¥68,200 and go up to ¥332,200.
The campaign video shows Nigo, himself, modeling his pieces to reflect his culture. Additionally, it features the brand’s first global ambassador VERNON, member of the K-pop band SEVENTEEN.
The collection can be found on KENZO’s website.
