The Consulate of Japan to Dubai held a reception Sunday to celebrate the 60th Birthday of the Japanese Emperor Naruhito which falls on the 23rd of February, with the attendance of diplomats and dignitaries.

Speaking at the event the Consul General of Japan to Dubai Dr. Akima Umezawa welcomed guests in joining in the first celebrations during the Reiwa era at the newly opened Sky View Address in the heart of Downtown Dubai.

Among the many dignitaries and attendees was famous Hollywood actor Steven Seagal who is visiting Dubai for a week and spoke exclusively to Arab News Japan about being at the event “I consider Japan my country” he stated “I grew up there and love it”.

There were stands exhibiting many Japanese products, ranging from Japanese rice and Nashi pears from Ishikawa city, to the Honda motorcycle model which won the Dakkar Rally 2020, which was held in Saudi Arabia for the first time.

Guests at the event enjoyed fresh sushi and sashimi prepared by the consulate’s personal chef and feasted at a station where a large tuna was carved and prepared for all to enjoy while the daughters of the Consul General enthralled with a violin duet.

Adding a unique Japanese touch to the event were the beautiful Ikebana bouquets spread across the ballroom that were prepared by Japanese and local members of the Ohara school of Ikebana Dubai/ Abu Dhabi Study Group.
