DUBAI: The epic historical drama movie ‘Napoleon’ premiered in Dubai’s Roxy Cinemas on Nov. 22, with a premiere organized by Roxy Cinemas, Empire Entertainment, Sony Pictures, and Apple Original Films.
The movie was directed and produced by Ridley Scott and written by David Scarpa, based on the true story of Napoleon Bonaparte, played by Joaquin Phoenix, and primarily depicts the French leader’s rise to power as well as his relationship with Empress Joséphine, played by Vanessa Kirby.
Bibi Zumot, a digital creator, shared his feedback about the movie, saying, “The movie allowed me to get a very great visual experience of Napoleon’s life, as I was able to see and feel all the emotions that he went through during his battles and between his people.”
Film director Faisal Hashmi also shared his thoughts regarding the film, saying, “Napoleon features a series of incredibly staged battle sequences in a way that only Ridley Scott can. The other aspects of his life were not as dramatically engaging to me as I hoped, but it’s a solid biopic nonetheless with a great Joaquin Phoenix performance.”
On Oct. 14, 2020, the same day his film The Last Duel (2021) wrapped filming, director Ridley Scott announced Napoleon as his next project for 20th Century Studios.
On Jan. 4, 2022, Jodie Comer revealed her departure from the film due to scheduling changes caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and was replaced by Vanessa Kirby. In February, Tahar Rahim was added to the cast in the role of Paul Barras. The historian Lorris Chevalier, who worked on The Last Duel, became the historical advisor.
The movie is now available in cinemas across the Middle East region.
