
TOKYO: Japan’s Foreign Minister KAMIKAWA Yoko, who is visiting New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly, met with Dr. Sayyid Abbas Araghchi, the Iranian Foreign Minister, and stressed the importance of continuing multilayered dialogue between the two sides amidst the ongoing tension in the Middle East region.
According to the Foreign Ministry statement, the meeting was held on September 23 for approximately half an hour.
Minister Kamikawa, while emphasizing the need to prevent the exchange of attacks and the cycle of violence, urged Iran to exercise maximum restraint. She also stressed the vital importance of ensuring the safety of navigation in the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf for regional stability.
Minister Kamikawa also expressed strong concerns over Iran’s transfer of ballistic missiles to Russia.
The two ministers exchanged views on Iran’s nuclear issue. Minister Kamikawa, while stating that full cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) without delay is essential, urged Iran to take constructive measures to rebuild the nuclear agreement.
Both sides affirmed the continuation of the multilayered dialogue between Japan and Iran, including at the foreign ministerial level.
At the beginning of the meeting, Minister Kamikawa expressed her sincere condolences for the many casualties caused by the explosion at a coal mine in eastern Iran.
